Harlow Council CSAS

Harlow Council Community Safety Team are located at Community Safety Hub, Harlow Council and have been CSAS accredited since 2009 and have 10 staff from their community safety Team all accredited under the Police reform Act.

The Community Safety Teamwork in a Modern well quipped Community Hub with Colleagues from Harlow’s Community Policing Team and are also joined on days by officers from Essex Fire Service, Probation Team, and Essex Police Licensing Officers.

The benefits of all the Community Safety Team being CSAS accredited really helps with the joined up working with Essex Police. Information sharing is paramount to the work they do.

A weekly Briefing is held for the Teams and daily officers share Intel, Missing Persons, Wanted Persons, Crime trends, Hotspot areas, Vehicle Crime, areas to patrol etc. Joint patrols and Operations are regularly carried out together.

Officers in the team are uniformed and wear a Hi-Vis Stab Vest with the CSAS Logo clearly identifiable on the front, these patrols also show the public how closely both partners work together. With being CSAS accredited it allows us to also work with other Teams within the police and we have good relations with Field Intelligence Officers and the Roads Policing Teams. CSAS has allowed them to have access to the Police National Computer to check if we suspect a vehicle to be Abandoned/Stolen with some excellent results around Stolen Vehicles across Harlow. The Team have also got Traffic management Powers allowing them to close roads for specific events and direct vehicles and pedestrians to stop where needed.

CSAS has allowed them to have access to Harlow Police Station which has really helped with Partnership working and able to just pop in and liaise/meet Colleagues working from the Station.

Accredited Officer James Dickinson said “Our relationship with the CSAS Team at Police Headquarters over many years has been excellent, working closely to make the scheme work well for all, sharing best practice with other Members of the Scheme and keeping up to date with any legislation or changes that may have been introduced.”

Harlow Council won the Essex Police CSAS Organisation of the year award in 2023 for their work around CSAS and supporting the Essex CIP Team with Feedback and development of the CSAS training including Traffic Management modules within Essex Police.
